CAREER NOTES: Genet Getaneh Wendimagegnehu made her marathon debut in Dubai in 2009 with a solid 2:26:37, fifth place. She stayed consistent in Berlin the same year finishing 2:27:09, again for fifth. This past year, she ran three marathons with her best showing in Amsterdam. There she recorded a personal best 2:25:57 for fourth. A member of the Ethiopian IAAF World Half Marathon team in 2008, Getaneh finished fourth in 1:10:03. Her half marathon best was set in 2008 in New Delhi, India, where she finished second to Aselefech Mergia by one second in 1:08:18.
PERSONAL NOTES: Getaneh start running in 1998 and counts Haile Gebrselassie and Derartu Tulu with providing inspiration for her to become a professional athlete. She is excited about her first Boston appearance: “My training is going well, and also I will work very hard to be in the best form when I come to Boston.” Getaneh is married to Tadese Feyesa. She trains in Addis Ababa with Jos Hermens’ group.
