After setting a personal best with a runner-up spot in Dubai in 2009, Deressa Chimsa won the Ethiopian National Half Marathon Championships at altitude in 62:16. At the World Marathon Championships, he was unable to finish for the Ethiopian team. Rebounding in 2010, he won in Daegu, the city hosting the World Marathon Championships this year. Chimsa said, “I have chosen to run in Boston because this is a Major Marathon with a lot of history involved. For me it is a great chance to show what I can achieve as a professional athlete. I expect good results, and because I will compete against very strong athletes, I do hope I will show everybody my potential.”

Chimsa started running as a boy and said, “I always felt that running was what I really wanted to do in my life. This kind of activity was appealing, so I decided to train always harder and harder and make running my job.” Chimsa trains in Addis Ababa and in Sebeta, Sululta, Sendafa, and Holeta.
